The managers, numbering 105 in total represented all 11 geographical regions of the business. The company had brought them together for their annual Safety Leaders meeting, with the specific intention of developing their regional safety plans for the 2014/15 period, with a focus upon driving forward their ‘All Safe’ cultural safety model throughout the business.
The key objectives for the conference were:
Juice Learning delivered a full-day programme which incorporated facilitated discussion and interactive activities; drama-based interventions (including invisible theatre, scripted performance and forum theatre); establishing the fundamentals of their regional safety plans and finally producing a short-film for each region to outline their plans for the coming 12 months.
The morning was spent exploring ‘where we are now’ with theatre illustrating some of the areas in which the organisation currently faces challenges. These dramatic scenarios were used as a springboard for discussion-based activities, where participants assessed the overall safety culture of the fictitious organisation as demonstrated through the behaviours and attitudes of the characters with a specific focus upon the quality of leadership demonstrated by the ‘leaders’ portrayed within the scenes.
Over the course of the morning we explored each of the company’s 7 All-Safe ‘Pillars’, summarised as:
Juice wanted to ensure that the process of exploring the ‘All-Safe’ model was as hands-on and interactive as possible, we commissioned the design and production of 11 physical three-dimensional models of ‘All-Safe’. These provided a point of focus throughout the morning, with each region building their models in different ways depending upon how they felt they were performing against each of the ‘7 Pillars’.

At the end of the morning, each regional leadership team had identified a range of areas for improvement against the 7 Pillars which would form the basis of their 2013/14 regional safety plans.
The afternoon was devoted to each regional leadership team producing a short film summarising their plans and communicating the importance of implementing these changes and improvements for the ongoing success of their business.
Each of the 11 teams were given an instruction pack outlining a specific style of film to create, ranging from ‘Parkinson-esque’ interviews, to ‘infomercials’. A range of props and costumes were supplied, and a full film-crew from Juice Learning’s in-house media-production team set up an on-site studio for filming. These films were ‘real-time edited’ and shown to all participants at the end of the day.
Based upon the session evaluations completed by all participants:
“Very productive day and session. Promoted positive discussion within the team. Good day all round. It reminded me that I have a personal responsibility to implement the All Safe Plan within the business.”
“Excellent conference! Very engaging and thought provoking which facilitated the team to really think about where we are now and what needs to be focussed on to take All Safe to the next level.”
“A very enjoyable day and excellent format to keep everyone engaged for the entire day. Thank you to the Juice team.”
