Nampak Plastics have a large workforce spread across 8 sites in the U.K. The organisation was keen that all staff attended high quality training on Behavioural Health and Safety. The bespoke training resource was the final element of a company-wide programme, entitled “Safety Matters”, which saw Juice working closely with the Board and the leadership team.
The training resource was designed to allow Nampak’s own team to deliver two 90-minute long workshops to their colleagues, covering a range of topics including: risk awareness, challenging poor behaviour, positive communications and personal ownership of safety. Our challenge was to create media resources that complimented the learning and made it accessible, relevant and thoroughly engaging.
We worked closely with the Safety Team at Nampak Plastics to develop a fictional storyline that would be familiar and relevant to all employees, including both plant and office-based staff.
The intricate narrative starts in the aftermath of a serious accident, where the identity of the casualty is unknown, The subsequent films go on to explore the characters involved and give the audience clues as to the details of the accident.
To further enhance the audience’s engagement Juice incorporated a visual style that allowed the character’s internal monologues to be visualized through multiple versions of the character appearing onscreen and interacting with each other. This ability to voice inner thoughts and emotions gives us a real insight into individuals attitudes and therefore better understand their behaviour.
Juice produced over fifty minutes of HD film during a four-day shoot on location at Nampak’s Trafford Park plant and at various other locations across Yorkshire and Lancashire, including a golf course and hospital. Juice also commissioned a motion graphics artist, to bring the telephone conversation sequences to life, and VTR North in Leeds completed all the audio postproduction.
The end product was a provocative broadcast-quality resource that, as well as helping deliver against some challenging learning objectives was visually arresting and highly memorable.
Thanks in no small part to the “Safety Matters” initiative Nampak Plastics have since gone on to win a ROSPA Gold Award.
“We of course went to alternative providers but our thoughts always came back to Juice Learning – there was something about their approach and willingness to work with our ideas and beliefs.
Juice Learning have used our vision and created a mindset, a health and safety brand, and a lasting legacy within our business. Without the hard work and attention to detail from the Juice team we would not have achieved this.”
