Juice were commissioned by the Yorkshire and the Humber Strategic Health Authority to produce a series of films to be featured in an important e-learning programme entitled: “Delivering Key Information”. An urgent training need was identified as throughout their careers, Health professionals will often have to give their service users life changing and potentially distressing news. The programme was designed to address some of the basic issues and will be used as an introduction, or a refresher course, to some of the foundation skills training. To make the training more interactive and engaging Juice were asked to create some video content to aid the exercises.
To ensure the training programme was relevant to staff and contained accurate and up to date information we initially consulted with Health & Social Care professionals, University lecturers and students. Following this consultation process, three e-learning 15-minute modules were created. Each module contains information, guidance, top tips from Health & Social Care professionals, video clips and interactive exercises for the user to complete.
The modules covered: Preparing to give key information, Gathering information, First impressions and choosing a place, Giving key information, Communication skills, Use of language, The aftermath of giving key information, Coping with reactions to your news, The use of body language and Procedure.
Juice filmed each of the scenarios in a studio and added location backdrops in post-production. Getting actors to undertake several roles gave the final films a sense of cohesion. The result is a unique collection of engaging and informative short films.
